Exotic Animals & Native Species Abound

Wildlife Wonders in Every Season

Our resort’s natural surroundings offer abundant opportunities to witness wildlife—deer, birds, butterflies, and in spring, even baby deer and antelope.

Encounters with nature are one of the most rewarding aspects of our resort. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine landscape, visitors can explore winding trails where butterflies dance through the air and wildlife sightings add a touch of magic to every outing.

Local Deer and Exotic Herds

Guests may encounter Texas White-tailed deer roaming freely throughout the resort grounds at any time of day. Additionally, exotic antelope and deer can often be spotted near our secure game compound, where they gather to feed—an open reminder of the resort’s past as a trophy hunting club. In springtime, the sight of baby deer or antelope frolicking in the open fields is a seasonal delight.

Our growing exotic herd features unique species from across the globe. Enjoy a peaceful walk to one of our designated viewing areas for a chance to observe these majestic animals up close. For the best times and locations to view them, feel free to ask our staff.

  • European Fallow Deer & Spotted Deer – Males display striking, moose-like antlers.
  • Axis Deer – Native to South and Southeast Asia, they have bright orange coats with white spots, resembling a white-tailed fawn.
  • Blackbuck Antelope – Originating from India and Nepal, mature males are black and white with long, spiraling horns.

Birds and Butterflies in the Texas Hill Country

The three large ponds attract aquatic life and a variety of birds that can often be seen from cabin, RV, or pod windows. Ducks and waterfowl are frequent visitors, bringing movement and color to the serene waters.
Our Hill Country resort, nestled among expansive oak and mesquite groves, offers easy trail access to wide stretches of undeveloped nature. These groves, along with the ponds and open fields, create a haven for birdwatchers. SKYE Texas Hill Country Resort is proud to be a designated bird counting site in the Audubon Society’s annual survey. In a recent count, 42 bird species were identified, including Cardinals, Flycatchers, Buntings, and many more.
